Secure your Profile Chrome extension (“the Extension”) handles information. The Extension is designed to provide a
soft lock for your browsing session by requiring a password to access Chrome navigation until unlocked.
We do not collect, transmit, or share any personal data with Agate Business Consulting or third parties. All data used by the Extension remains on your device.
2. Information We Collect
The Extension does not collect, track, or transmit any personal or browsing data externally.
Passwords and Retrieval Keys: When you configure the Extension, your password and retrieval key are stored locally on your device using salted cryptographic hashing (PBKDF2 with SHA‑256). Plaintext values are never stored.
Extension Settings: Options such as whether protection is enabled or disabled are stored locally using Chrome’s chrome.storage.local API.
No information leaves your device.
3. How Information Is Used
Locally stored information is used only for the following purposes:
To verify your password when unlocking Chrome.
To allow password reset when a valid retrieval key is provided.
To determine whether the lock screen should appear (based on your enabled/disabled setting).
We do not use your information for analytics, advertising, profiling, or any other purposes.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, share, or disclose your data to anyone. Because all data is stored locally on your device, we have no access to it.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
All passwords and retrieval keys are stored as salted hashes in Chrome’s local storage.
Removing or resetting the Extension deletes all locally stored data.
If you wish to reset your data, you may uninstall the Extension or clear its storage via Chrome settings.
6. Security Measures
Password Protection: Passwords and retrieval keys are never stored in plaintext. They are converted into salted hashes using industry‑standard PBKDF2 with SHA‑256.
Local Storage: All data remains on your device. No external servers are contacted.
Soft Lock Disclaimer: This Extension is intended as a privacy deterrent and should not be relied upon as a hardened security boundary. A knowledgeable user could disable or uninstall the Extension to bypass protection.
7. Children’s Privacy
The Extension does not target or knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect improvements or legal requirements. Updates will be posted on https://www.agatebc.com. The “Effective Date” at the top will indicate the latest version.
